Start & Sit for Week 19!!!!!!!!

August 01, 2008
Author: John Arias

Rating: 10.0 out of 10

Start’em

1. Conor Jackson; 1B, OF, ARI:

Jackson has been on a tear since the start of July. In July, he is hitting .354 with five home runs and 15 RBIs. He has carried the Diamondbacks for the last month and is carry fantasy owners. He hits over .300 at home and on the road, making him a must-start for week 19.

2. Adam Lind; OF, TOR:

Since becoming a regular in the outfield, he has been playing very well. In 24 games in July, he has three home runs and 17 RBIs. He is hitting .379 and has an OBP .396 and SLUG% of .644, which is an OPS of over a thousand. WOW! Grab him if he is available and do not be hesitant to start him the rest of the year.

3. Mike Pelfrey, SP, NYM:

After winning seven consecutive starts, Pelfrey dropped his last start. Do not worry fantasy owners because Pelfrey will pitch twice in week 19 at home, where he is dominate. At home, he is 5-4 with a 2.25 ERA in 11 starts. He has won his last five starts at home, after losing his first four. He will face the awful Padres and Marlins. Look for him to do very well in week 19.

4. Matt Kemp; OF, LAD:

He just ended a 17 game hitting streak, where he was hitting .371. In July, he has hit five home runs and 14 RBIs. His season numbers of 12 home runs and 57 RBIs are remarkable for this young player. What makes him so valuable is his 26 steals. He is the rare 5-tool player and a must start in week 19.

5. Aubrey Huff; 1B, 3B, BAL:

Huff has been one of the best players in the game for the last month. His totals are worth MVP caliber consideration. He is on a nine game hitting streak, where he is hitting .500 and his numbers in July are miraculous. In 26 games he is hitting .386 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs. Look for him to continue in week 19.

6. Troy Tulowitski; SS, COL:

He has hit in eight of his last nine games and has raised his average from .164 to .241 in 13 games. Once a disappointment in fantasy leagues he has battled through injuries and has begun to hit.

7. Alex Rios; OF, TOR:

He has finally started to hit and has been doing very well. In his last 25 games he is hitting .333. Owners should be very disappointed with his play but he should have a huge second half.

8. Joe Saunders; SP, LAA:

He has been unbelievable this year and may end up winning the CY young award. He is scheduled to pitch twice at home against the Orioles and Yankees. At home this year, Saunders is 6-2 with a 3.80 ERA. Look for him to dominate in week 19.

Sit’em

1. Mark Reynolds; 3B, ARI:

Reynolds is a very streaky player at that could not be anymore represented than in June and July. In June, he hit .293 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. In July, he hit .200 with four home runs and 15 RBIs, which is respectable power numbers but his average kills fantasy owners. Look for him to struggle in week 19.

2. Matt Cain; SP, SF:

Matt Cain has been a hard luck pitcher in San Francisco. He has an ERA of .370, yet has a record of 6-9. In week 19, he is scheduled to pitch twice against the Dodgers and Braves. He will face opposing pitchers Chad Billingsley and Jair Jurgens. Each of whom have been dominate of late, making Cain a high risk for victories.

3. Josh Willingham, OF, FLA:

After having a great start to the season in April, unfortunately he was injured and has not been the same since. In 23 games in July, he is hitting .208 with no home runs and only seven RBIs. Look for him to be on the bench.

4. Vicente Padilla; SP, TEX:

Padilla has feasted on great run support to win 12 games this year. In his last six games, he is 3-2 but has an ERA of 6.56 and a WHIP of 1.54. He is schedule to start twice this week and should not be trusted.

5. B.J. Upton, 2B, OF, TB:

Upton has been a great young player this year but he is in a huge slump. In July, he hit .203 with no home runs and five RBIs. He did have nine stolen bases in July, yet this is no surprise. In June, he hit .245 and until he finds his stroke, look for him to be on the bench.

6. Gil Meche, SP, KC:

Meche has been pitching well of late, but he has not had the run support of his offense to win more games. He will pitch at home against the Red Sox and Twins. At home this year he is 4-4 with a 4.69 ERA. Against the Twins this year, he is 0-2 with an 8.49 ERA.

7. Jeff Francoeur; OF, ATL:

Francoeur has regressed each month this year and it came to a ultimate end when he was optioned to the minors. Since June he is hitting under .210 and will soon find himself on the bench for good.

8. Luke Scott; OF, BAL:

In July, Luke Scott has struggled. He is hitting .185 in 25 games. Fortunately for Scott it seems that his job in the outfield is not in jeopardy. He has been playing through an injury in his shin and has suffered at the plate. Until he has recovered put him on the bench.
